Turbo to Topsham and Torre

Updated: Dec 14, 2020

Class 166 Turbo trains have started work on the Exmouth to Paignton service this week. These three car units were built in 1992 and have previously worked in the Thames Valley and lately in the Bristol area. 166211 is pictured below on the 1357 Torbay service at Dawlish Warren on December 14th 2020.

Other services on the Riviera Line are now operated by class 150 units working as two car or four car trains. This (below) is the 1420 Paignton to Exmouth service passing Dawlish Warren on December 14th 2020.

The Turbos have replaced GWR's six class 143 Pacer units which are being withdrawn and taken away for storage in Bristol. These two car trains built in 1985 don't comply with current disability access regulations are have to be paired with a class 150 unit when working the Exmouth to Paignton service. Pictures below show Pacer number 143611 on an Exmouth bound train on the Barnstaple branch at Morchard Road (1and 4) and unidentified units on the Paignton line at Marsh Barton (3) and Hackney near Newton Abbot (2). Picture (5) shows unit 143603 at Exeter St Davids.
