New netting planned to stop cliff falls near Dawlish

The Rail Minister Wendy Morton visited Dawlish last week where a further £32m will be spent to protect the railway in the South West. Netting and fencing will be installed on the cliffs between Dawlish and Holcombe to improve resilience. It means more than £150m has now been invested in the area to make the railway more resilient for generations to come.

The Minister also visited the worksite where the second section of the new sea wall is being built between Coastguard and Colonnade breakwaters.

Meanwhile designs for the new accessible footbridge with lifts for Dawlish station have been amended. The updated design is more slender and will be simpler and quicker to build, bringing it into use sooner. The contractors are planning to install it next year, subject to prior approval from Teignbridge District Council.
