More trains to Okehampton

Hourly trains will start running from Exeter Central to Okehampton on 17th May

The line reopened for regular year-round, all-week passenger services on Saturday 20 November and demand for the trains linking Okehampton and Exeter has continued to remain high. Now according to the Realtime Trains website it seems hourly services will start in two months time.

The reopening of the Dartmoor Line is the first of the Government’s Restoring Your Railway schemes, made possible thanks to over £40 million Government investment.

The work includes laying over 11 miles of track, replacing 24,000 concrete sleepers and installing nearly 29,000 tonnes of ballast before running test trains on the track ahead of fully reopening the railway to passengers.

Track renewals will affect train services between Exeter and Okehampton from Monday 25 April to Monday 9 May. This work is essential to the introduction of hourly services on the Dartmoor Line . Trains will continue to run between Exeter and Barnstaple. Replacement buses will run between Crediton and Okehampton. Journey times will be extended and buses will depart at different times to normal.
