South Devon Railway Engineering has won a contract from Colas Rail to repair and repaint former East Midlands Railway high speed train power car number 43277 (originally 43077).
The unit is one of five power cars that makes up their fleet of vehicles for use on Network Rail’s test trains, conducting inspections of track across Britain. The work includes component renewal and a repaint.
The power car arrived by road last week and will be transferred straight into the railway’s workshops.
South Devon Railway Engineering’s workshop manager, Rob Evans, said: “This is a great step forward for South Devon Railway Engineering as we branch out into new areas of work for the business and look forward to the new challenge this will bring our skilled team of engineers.”
Unfortunately, the power car will not be available to view during much of its stay as it is in areas of the workshops that are inaccessible to the public.
