Bideford 150th

There's a celebration on 12th June to mark 150 years since the station opened on its current site in Bideford.

It will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with loco cab rides from noon to 3 p.m.

Vintage vehicles will be on display along with an operating model railway.

Tickets might be available on the day but due to previous demand the organisers are strongly encouraging advance booking.

The first Bideford station opened in 1855 a few hundred yards nearer Barnstaple than the present site. It was moved 17 years later and opened on 18th July 1872 when the line was extended to Torrington. The old station at Cross Parks became the goods yard.

Bideford station closed to passengers in October 1965 when the service from Torrington to Barnstable stopped running. Good traffic continued through the station until November 1982 with the tracks being lifted 3 years later. The line's now been converted into a walking a cycling trail.
