Dawlish Seawall progress

The first few segments of the new £30m Dawlish Sea Wall have been installed along Marine Parade.

The concrete panels are being erected despite hazardous conditions caused by recent storms. They will form part of the new 7.5m high structure designed to protect the railway from the sea for the next 100 years.

The walkway will also be widened by three feet, and barriers built to stop people falling over the edge.

The rest of the 100 panels will be installed at the site between Dawlish station and Kennaway Tunnel over the coming weeks. Once installation and back-filling of the panels is complete, Network Rail will also install track drainage.
