New stop planned for Seaton Tram

Plans have been submitted for the construction of new halt on the Seaton Tramway.

The work will include a pedestrian access bridge, ramp and timber walkways. The aim is to provide a pedestrian link to Seaton Wetlands which are alongside the former LSWR Seaton branchline (now tramway) between the east Devon resort and Colyton.

The wetlands area and the River Axe attract wading birds, ducks and kingfishers as well as dragonflies and butterflies in the summer.

The Seaton branch line opened in 1868 and closed after the Beeching Report in March 1966. It reopened as a tramway four years later.
