Dawlish sea wall delayed

Unstable ground conditions have delayed the construction of a new sea wall along the GWR mainline in Devon according to RAIL magazine. . The 30 million pound project will see new concrete panels installed along a 400 yard length of track from Kennaway Tunnel to just south of Dawlish Station raising the height of the sea wall by 2.5 metres. The area between these outer panels and the railway tracks will be infilled with concrete. The foundations are already in place and the first panels were due to be installed on December 9th but engineers found that there was insufficient solid rock to hold the anchors originally designed for the panels. Network Rail engineers are trying to find a solution and no date's been set for the work to restart.
